Strong Start

Krass and Jayde the manticores attack, seeking its next meal. There’s a huge warbling sound and the characters wake up a minute later with half the manticore torn away. Something huge ate it.

Secret and Clues

• [ ] Skabitha Nightshade holds a portrait of Timothy Sprout with his family. It holds their memories of him. All they must do is view it and it will return to them.
• [ ] The FUs came here four years ago. They’ve made quite the name for themselves giving shit to the Hourglass Coven.
• [ ] The Hourglass Coven used a powerful magic to trap Zybilna – Archfey of Prismeer. Whatever it was, they lost it.
• [ ] The Hourglass Coven has a mercenary company working for them called the League of Malevolence. They too seek the power.
• [ ] Only unicorns can reach the shore of Wayward Pool, but the magic protecting the pool can’t tell the difference between a real unicorn and a make-believe one. To reach the lake themselves, the kids created a crude unicorn costume under which they can hide. (They keep the costume in their treehouse and can lend it to the characters, although it’s big enough to hold only two adults.)
• [ ] Tying a wooden horn to one’s head also bypasses the pool’s magical ward.
• [ ] On a small island in the middle of the lake, the characters can find an iron bowl filled with fresh coals. Summoning the unicorn can be accomplished by lighting a fire in that bowl.
• [ ] The oilcan is an animated Construct named Squirt (see the accompanying stat block). Squirt’s excesses and self-indulgences have left it feeling literally empty inside, and it doesn’t have enough oil right now to use its Boggle Oil action. If the characters fill Squirt with more boggle oil, it offers to guide them from Thither to Yon. Squirt knows that Granny Nightshade’s workshop employs boggles and can lead the group there. Appendix D  has additional roleplaying notes for Squirt.
• [x] Some rifts have opened between the Fey and the realm of Shadow. Some nasty buggers have come forth including a band of red caps known as the Mudstompers.
