Imagine a row of little candles on my windowsill – each one either lit or unlit. If it’s lit, it means Hasbro is doing something good for the 5e RPG hobby and the health of D&D. If one is unlit, they are not yet doing this thing. If some candles go out, they have pulled back (that’s a warning sign). If new candles light up, they’re doing more good things for the hobby.

The candles represent Hasbro’s actions that bring long-term resilience and benefit to the 5e tabletop RPG hobby.

Lit Candles

• WOTC releases the 5.1 SRD into the CC.
• WOTC releases the 5.1 SRD into the CC for four other languages.
• WOTC continues releasing physical D&D books (flickering).
• WOTC continues releasing current D&D products on Roll 20.
• WOTC continues releasing current D&D products on Fantasy Grounds.
• WOTC offers a non-exclusive license for third party publishers on D&D Beyond.
• WOTC puts out free educator resources and a free PDF adventure for kids.
• WOTC releases D&D products on Foundry.

Promised Yet Unlit Candles

• WOTC releases the 2024 rules SRD into the CC (expected in 2024?)
• WOTC releases the 3.5 SRD into the CC (late — promised in early 2023 for late 2023)

Unlit Candles with No Promises

• WOTC releases 5e books in PDF.
• WOTC releases D&D products on Shard.
• WOTC releases D&D products on Demiplane.
• WOTC releases an authenticated API for data from D&D Beyond to support third party tools with purchased content.
• WOTC allows people to upload structured homebrew content (subclasses, spells, magic items, feats, and monsters) to their private homebrew section on D&D Beyond.
