- [ ] Add Dreadful Incursions if you want a fun juxtaposition with the whimsy of Prismeer. It’s a fun way to add combat without questions of morality.
- [ ] Choose your NPCs. You don’t have to use them all. Choose which ones you dig. Replace them with those meaningful to the characters. Make up your own. Whatever.
- [ ] Choose which sections and encounters you want. You don’t have to use them all.
- [ ] Run Motherhorn as a situation. Let the characters navigate it how they wish. they don’t have to explore the whole thing.
- [ ] If you don’t dig them, you don’t need to put a spotlight on the League of Malevolence or Valor’s Call, or include them at all if you don’t want to.
- [ ] Take a hard look at how the Palace of Hearts Desire works. There’s decent criticism about its layout, puzzles, and which doors lead to which locations. Like the rest, you don't need to run it as-is. I only used three rooms when I ran it and I liked it just fine. See the Reddit post in my notes.
- [ ] If you are running Dreadful Incursions, feel free to drop in a main dark lord as a main villain if you want. Vladeska Drakov of Falkovnia worked really well for me but it could be any of them.
Overall Thoughts at this Point
- [ ] I’m enjoying the adventure mostly as written. I don’t feel like I have to add things – I do it because I want to. That, to me, is the sign of a good adventure.
- [ ] I’m still enjoying dropping in Dreadful Incursions
- [ ] Brief summary of Dreadful Incursions
- [ ] Starting to incorporate a single dark lord from Falkovnia. This added a whole new layer.
Chapter 4 – Yon
- [ ] I used Little Oak as the guide to cross the mists from Thither to Yon. This gave the characters a mobile home base and I didn’t have to introduce another NPC. It breaks the Wizard of Oz theme but that’s ok.
- [ ] In my game, the Friendly Urchins took the place of the Getaway Gang since the characters met them at the carnival. They traveled with the characters to Yon.
- [ ] The strife between the Korrids and the Brigganocks worked well. The players enjoyed figuring out that both groups hate each other but really they hate Endelyn Moongrave.
- [ ] The theme of huge lighting rods is a fun bit of atmosphere.
- [ ] Amador, Polliana, and Mudlump is a lot of fun. My characters figured out how to make all three of them happy. Pollyanna returned to Mudlump’s hive and Amador stood as her knight protector. Everyone’s happy.
- [ ] The Astronomer’s Throne is a great way to introduce some fun multiverse vibes. I used it to give one of the characters a stronger Planewalker connection and a view of the colliding domains of dread. There’s an opportunity to introduce a tag-along NPC if you want. Mazikoth. It can possess an item or ride shotgun in the mind of the person who sat on top of the throne. This sort of NPC is great because it doesn’t engage in combat or hog a spotlight – it’s a wonderful vehicle for secrets and clues.
- [ ] I don’t run the Fey Beacons or the mime perytons. It looked cool but it just didn’t come up.
